Hi, Hope you're all well and doing the best you can,
with lots of us under these new restrictions. Anyway, just thought I'd give you
a quick update on a few things.
Virtual Quiz Night This was a very successful evening. We raised over £700
and 102 people took part. Technically, it was a challenge, but we made it to
the end and "Oh be-have" won!
Premises/Barn. We're all settled in our new home and even have a mezzanine
floor that we've built! We have all our set & furniture down at the barn,
whilst our costumes and props are being kept in two garages. This was a great
job to get sorted over the summer and we are extremely grateful to Andrew at
the barn for giving us the space.
Chiltern Shakespeare Company. I just wanted to give you an update on CSC and Romeo and Juliet
in 2021.
With all the
uncertainty with where we are at this particular moment in the year, everyone
in the theatre world has the very difficult decision to make, of knowing when
we will be able to get back to performing in a safe environment. As you might
expect, the CSC crew would have by now organised and paid deposits on items
such as marquees, seating, lighting etc. Making such commitments in the past 8
weeks has been very difficult, near on impossible. If we knew how things would
be for auditions in January and rehearsals commencing in February/March, the
decisions might have been easier. However, we don't know exactly how long it
will be until "most people" will be vaccinated and in a sense, feel safe again.
There is also a huge financial risk with our decision and not one we want to
take lightly.
We feel within
the panel and it was a unanimous decision, that the safety of all our members,
CSC and Fourways, cast and audience, has to be our top priority and with so
many assessments needing to be made prior to Christmas, we just don't feel it's
possible to continue without taking too many risks. This was such a difficult
decision; we really want CSC to be performing again and we have worked so hard
in preparing for that this year. However, we have made the decision to perform
"CSC Reduced" this year, later in the Summer, end of August/beginning September
and then to come back to full style with Romeo and Juliet in 18 months' time,
in June 2022. Please watch out for more details on this.
We really hope you will take part in auditions for
CSC Reduced, when these are held. We also hope you'll come back for Romeo and
Juliet in 2022.
Christmas
Evening. We had great fun at
the Fourways Christmas Evening! We were treated to traditional poetry, fun
sketches and monologues and fantastic music. A fabulous time was had by all and
we finished off the evening, listening to The Twelve Days of Christmas from the
Royal Albert Hall.
Games
Evening and Play Readings. The
Zoom Games Evening in September was great fun and brought out the competitive
nature in some of our members! So, we are having another one of these in
January and a Play Reading in February. We also plan to hold an on-line
training day in "accents!" in February, so watch out for further
details
Fourways Performing
Again! We WILL be back
performing again. Our next production after CSC Reduced will be in October and
the team are busy planning - we can't wait! More details to follow
shortly. In the meantime, a huge
thank you to those who are continuing to support us and for those who are
renewing their sponsorship and membership, we are enormously grateful.
It just leaves me to
wish you all a very Peaceful Christmas. Please stay safe and well, and we can't
wait to see you all again soon.
Very
best wishes,
